Michael Meissner and Jay Hoskins, the Follow Up to the Combine Massacre

Jay Hoskins is lurking on this blog, as he has in the past and did also at the old Elliscountyobserversucks blog as he tries to "set the record straight" in the Hoskins/Dauben/Meissner rent a piggy scandal. Meissner and Hoskins are one in the same, they are both two low rent gypsy cops that are engulfed by their passion to get back at each other (especially Hoskins). Neither one can hold down a job for longer than 5 months and we are talking about small towns that will overlook numerous flaws.

Joey Dauben was unable to stay out of this little feud, and it landed him in jail as a result. He first played on team Hoskins by hiring Jay as a freelance reporter who only did articles about and against Meissner. Then Joey switched over to team Michael (for $50) and published the mug shot.

Anyway, here is a really good follow up story by a professional journalist that works for a company in the business of investigating its sources and getting their facts straight.

Accusations fly in feud involving Texas lawmen, porn charges

The lengthy arrest warrant for former small-town police chief Michael Meissner included a string of graphic text messages he was accused of sending to teenage boys, trying to lure them to sex parties. Television news crews flocked to the jailhouse to catch a glimpse of Meissner in handcuffs.

Yet a week after his September arrest, Meissner, 39, then the police chief of Little River-Academy, a small community south of Waco, walked out of the Dallas County Jail a free man.

The seven charges against him were erased, and his $1.5 million bail was dismissed.

Prosecutors in Dallas and Tarrant counties won't say why Meissner won't be tried on charges of promotion of prostitution, possession and promotion of child pornography and sexual performance of a child.

The dismissals baffled the investigating officer, John Hoskins, who said he uncovered the seedy texts during another investigation while working as an unpaid reserve officer for the city of Combine in Kaufman County, near the Dallas County line.

Meissner, who lives in Dallas, denies the charges and denies sending the text messages. He said the allegations are trumped up by Hoskins, an officer Meissner says has been out to get him for years. "I think ... [authorities] knew the charges were bogus; they knew about this guy and this vendetta," Meissner said.

While it remains unclear why prosecutors won't pursue a case against Meissner, documents reveal a bitterness between the two officers that began four years ago.

The rivalry is a convoluted tale of salacious allegations mixed with small-town politics. It pits Meissner, a peace officer who has worked for 18 agencies in 20 years, against Hoskins, an equally nomadic officer.

The two worked side by side in 2006 when Meissner was police chief and Hoskins was his officer in the East Texas town of Caney City. While there, Hoskins investigated a charge that his boss viewed pornography with a minor at the police station on a city-owned computer, according to a police report. The charge, like others against Meissner, was dropped.

Hoskins said his latest investigation isn't about settling a feud.

"I do not have an ax to grind. People like Meissner don't need to have badges," said Hoskins, who has left the Combine Police Department but will not say where he now works, out of privacy concerns.

Like Meissner, Hoskins has had peace officer jobs with several agencies. Since 1999, he has had 14 appointments with police departments, none lasting more than five months.

The investigation has sent ripples through Combine. In the wake of Hoskins' investigation and subsequent resignation, Police Chief Steve Allen, who authorized the investigation, left the department in November.

"The frustrating part of it is there's a criminal that's still out walking on the streets," Allen alleged. Of the charges, which have been dropped, he said, "It's not hearsay - 'he said, she said' - it's straight off his text messages."

The day Allen announced his resignation, the Combine City Council was scheduled to review his employment. In that same meeting, city leaders were scheduled to discuss the fallout from the Meissner investigation, his incarceration and the raid on his Arlington home.

James Heironimus, a former director of the state agency that regulates peace officers, is familiar with the history between Hoskins and Meissner. Knowing that, he said he's sure that Hoskins' investigation is motivated by his desire to settle a score. "It's personal for Hoskins for sure," he said.

Heironimus once investigated Meissner on allegations that he destroyed evidence and documents from a police property room. No criminal charges came of the allegations.

"Certainly someone needs to go in and really look at this thing with less than a jaundiced eye," Heironimus said. "Either ... [Meissner is] doing something wrong or not."

Hoskins has devoted years to trying to alert legislators and the public to Meissner's work history and criminal background through a Web site he established.

Meissner, whose law enforcement career began in 1989, also has faced charges including impersonating a public servant and operating a security company without a license. The charges have all been dropped.

'Barely legal age'

On Sept. 15, authorities arrested Meissner on seven felony counts in Tarrant and Dallas counties.

The affidavit says that while Meissner was police chief at Little River-Academy - and the small community's only police officer - he found a 17-year-old through the MySpace social networking site and began texting and e-mailing him lewd messages. According to the affidavit, the messages promised sexual encounters with others at Meissner's Arlington home.

Throughout almost 5,000 text messages that Hoskins said he obtained from Meissner's cellphone using a search warrant, Meissner allegedly attempted to lure the high school student and others to his home in the 1000 block of Glynn Oaks Drive to participate in sex parties with alcohol, drugs and video cameras, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit says Meissner also received nude photographs from people of "barely legal age."

Combine police seized the e-mails and texts through a search warrant Hoskins obtained in a related case. He had been investigating whether Meissner illegally e-mailed a Combine officer's mug shot to a blogger.

The Dallas County district attorney's office rejected three charges against Meissner, including engaging in organized crime.

"But we don't comment on how we make such decisions," spokeswoman Jamille Bradfield said.

None of the other charges, including promotion of prostitution, possession and promotion of child pornography and sexual performance by a child, have been brought to the Tarrant County district attorney's office, a spokeswoman said, because the judge who signed Meissner's arrest warrant later withdrew the charges.

The judge, Tarrant County District Judge Louis Sturns, said he didn't feel comfortable commenting on his decision.

Previous arrests

Although he has worked as police chief in four small cities, Meissner has been arrested at least four times, including on charges that he tampered with a witness and used a fictitious degree on a job application for the Dallas County Community College District. Meissner was not prosecuted on any of those charges, which have all been dropped.

"I'm not perfect by any means, but there has to be something good about me because I keep getting these chief jobs," he said.

Officials with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, the agency that oversees peace officers, said it will not suspend or revoke an officer's license without a conviction. In Meissner's case, he has never been tried.

"You're innocent until proven guilty," said Laura Le Blanc, the agency's public information officer. "We have nothing in our rules and statutes that we can take action until he's been found guilty of criminal misconduct."

Hoskins said the state agency needs to have more accountability for who gets a badge.

"We should not have to police our own, but the state needs to do something about it," he said. "I know there are other cops just like him."

The Hoskins-Meissner rivalry began in Caney City in fall 2006 when Hoskins and Meissner applied for the chief position in the Henderson County town of about 225 people.

Meissner got the job and later hired Hoskins as an officer. Just weeks into his employment, Hoskins began investigating allegations that his boss viewed pornography with a 15-year-old boy on a city-owned computer, according to Caney City police records.

The investigation hardly began. According to Hoskins, 31, when Meissner learned about it, he fired him.

Meissner says Hoskins never worked for him, but city records show Hoskins led an investigation of allegations against his boss involving the 15-year-old boy.

Since then, both men have tried to tarnish each other's credibility. According to Hoskins, Meissner has called his supervisors to try to get him fired or to keep them from hiring him when he applied for jobs. Hoskins won't say where he's working now.

Hoskins established the Web site www.michaelmeissner.com - which he has since taken down - to gather tips and warn the public about Meissner's record as a nomadic cop and his arrests. Among the content on the site were copies of a federal tax lien against Meissner and documents accusing him of burning police records and evidence from police property rooms.

Hoskins also appealed to legislators and the media to look into Meissner.

Meanwhile, Meissner floated around, getting jobs with small-town agencies until his conflict with Hoskins heated up again in August, when Hoskins said he discovered the alleged text messages that led to Meissner's latest arrest.

"All I wanted to be was a small-town chief and be left alone," Meissner said. "But this guy does not want me to do it, for some reason. This guy keeps bringing up charges in the past, but they've never went far enough to go into court."

Meissner said that since he left Little River-Academy he has begun coordinating security for a family-owned business in Dallas that he declined to identify.

He filed a complaint of official oppression by Hoskins and others in Combine to Kaufman County District Attorney Rick Harrison in November. Among his allegations, Meissner said that following his arrest, "Investigator Hoskins notified several media outlets and made several press releases in the city of Combine's name to publicly embarrass me and cause harm."

Hoskins is frustrated that Meissner is free. He said there's no telling how many victims he has preyed upon.

"When the justice system has failed, I've tried to get it to the right hands," Hoskins said.

George Spurgeon, an officer of 18 years who once worked with Meissner and is familiar with Hoskins, said many agree - but he said they also feel the same way about Hoskins.

"Most of the officers I know ... would say we'd probably be better off in the law enforcement community if both of them were not police officers," Spurgeon said. NOMADIC CAREERS Michael Meissner and John Hoskins have had numerous short stints in several Texas police agencies, according to state records. 2. I've read this article before, but it was still a refreshing reread. I'd like to say how nice it is to read a well written article. It's a convoluted story, no doubt, but this is coherently written. The author doesn't attempt to pick words to impress the reader nor does he write in a way to ram his opinion down our throats. When Joey wrote, he told you what he believed you should be thinking. In doing that, his articles had a overwhelming tone of condescension. He needed to give the reader more credit. Put it out there in black and white, and people will draw their own conclusions. The facts speak to these guys being dirty cops. We don't need to be fed a heaping spoonful of hatred.

This is the article I read that made me wonder if the charges were dropped against Meissner due to technical error. Somewhere early on in this, somebody made a comment that Joey might be in a gay porn film - this is the article that made me wonder if that could be true.

George Spurgeon has a little bit of nomad in him too, I think he was in Venus at the time this was written, last I heard he is in Bardwell.

I was poking around a little, trying to find this article again - instead I found this comment Joey posted on this story at www.nowpublic.com. Verification not required, I think we all know it's the real thing:

Updates about the case involving Combine, Texas' police department can be found here: www.KaufmanCountyO.comA dirty cop got away because of dirty cops in Combine. It's a sickening cycle.

I wonder if it was the uncivilized bunch of Joey supporters caused the DMN to shut down comments on their article.

  6. Exactly, I think they should have gotten Meissner but clearly the only reason they couldn't make it stick is because Hoskins DNA, and therefore, personal vendetta was all over it. If this came from a real legit peace officer, Meissner and possibly Joey would still be in jail although I dont think a real officer would have gone after Joey for just publishing a mug shot that was emailed to him.

It's kind of fun going back to look at comments made by/about Joey from 1+ years ago. But, I really have to quit now - I'm on vacation and there are 2 horses outside calling my name.....

There are a couple tidbits in the old articles & blogs that are interesting. One indicated that Joey's charges in '09 were related to organized crime. Made me wonder if Joey being paid by Meissner to post was the basis for that charge. Another one said Joey was charged with identity theft and misuse of official information - same as Ellis County charges?

Then I found this comment by Cheri, in response to Joey's comments on a Dallas O article. I'd be willing to bet the "benefit" Joey is now receiving from all his "hard work" is not exactly what she had in mind.

I never had the same feeling about the Hatfields as you did. You may have gained a lot in the way of experience from them, but I always felt that they took advantage of many of their young reporters and their talents. Their reporters often worked around the clock for wages that did not even come close to covering their gas to run from meeting to meeting. I am glad you branched off on your own...atleast you will be the one to benefit from all your hard work.

Not to mention that but you were also able to summon the "real" Jay Hoskins to post on here in the middle of the night one hour after you made the request.

As I have said before and I will say again, I would love for them to finally bust Meissner, but until that scum sack Hoskins gets his stench off the case, its never going anywhere. Meissner can correctly claim in a court of law that the whole thing was brought about by a personal vendetta against him, even if the evidence is sound. So its real simple erase the stinky piggy and Meissner would be in some pretty big trouble.

  39. yappy is a pain in asses' asses equally. There is no Presley vendetta. In fact, all but a couple of people here seem to have no bias against any one person. Joey is part of a group of people that ruin their own lives and the lives of others. Some of his little group are worse than others. Brannon isn't a bad guy. Brandy just got wrapped up in the wrong crowd. She's got weird beliefs, but she's not hurting anybody. Her kids might end up a little screwy though. Pretty much everybody else in Joey's little bunch is fowl mouthed, defiantly uneducated with somebody's life they are set on ruining - Joey has lots, Meissner and Hoskins have each other, Presley has her dad and sis, Connie her ex and daughter . . . the list goes on and on.

Then throw them in the middle of the pit, the verbal arguments might be just an entertaining as the physical conflict, but paying customers will expect both. We will also need a translator for the audience.

And for that matter he really didn't "lie" either. He admitted he posted the mug shot, he just said it wasn't his fault. But really (or rillly 4 jd's sista) how complicated can a their relationship be? She tells the guy she loves him and will visit 3x's a week. Gets the Daubens to set her up in a hotel and they pay for it, her food, n travel expenses so Joey can have a fiancee. Then she too doesn't have to work. She never thought this through clear enough.

    ReplyDelete
  65. So you just yap at it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. oh ginger,

Lets see. linked to michael meissner. Michael Meissner involved in teen porn with boys and solicitation. Dauben has sex with teen boys.. No, theres no link between meissner, dauben and porn. Birds of a feather flock together.

your ratings must be low for you to post on Meissner/Hoskins/Dauben. BUT, what that affidavit did do is PROVE that the case was legitimate and that any reasonable officer would have done the same thing!

Dauben claimed in his "manifesto" that he believed that Hoskins had sent the mugshot (yet in the affidavit, it proves who actually did it. He is a liar and con artist, plain and simple. And he associates himself with other alleged child molesters.

you wouldn't know the "thorn of truth" if it stuck you in the arse. None of us were there, but you sure seem to know all of the facts. Obviously for the court to have ordered attachments sealed forever because of the graphic nature of them, and the case to have been dismissed, there was SOMETHING done right!

    ReplyDelete
  67. The case being dismissed referring to MEISSNER's civil suit! Had they waited 2 weeks, they would haev never paid Dauben!

    ReplyDelete
  68. wow, you really do get personally insulted every time I go after Hoskins, dont ya? My ratings right now are the highest they have ever been, but I dont really care about that. Dauben was linked to Meissner in that he gave Joey money to publish the pic. Joey is very much guilty of being a dumb ass, and a broke on at that. But no where is there evidence that Joey was working with Meissner in his child porn operation. Joey, allegedly, had a one night romp with an underage boy (consensual) at a church camp 4 years ago. To connect that to the Meissner fiasco is the kind of speculative cliff jumping that Joey used to do. The affidavit only proves that in the opinion of one former trooper (considered the bottom of the law enforcement food chain) Hoskins acted reasonably. That doesn’t "prove" anything and only someone as stupid as Hoskins wouldn't understand the difference between one guy's opinion and something you can prove.

    ReplyDelete
  69. And by your logic, we can turn the tables on Hoskins as well. Hoskins and Meissner used to work together. Meissner ran a child porn opperation, therefore Hoskins was involved in child porn.

    ReplyDelete
  70. no, I dont get personally insulted everytime you go after Hoskins. However, I am assuming you are too ignorant to realize that this was an EXPERT witness and Commander of a State Agency. Not a rent a pig like Hoskins, Meissner or Barney Fife.

How do you know Joey had a one night romp??

You speculate just as much on attacking the Combine case- so that's like calling the kettle black. You speculate throughout the blog on the case, when I post actual facts from the case which counter the claims of Joey Dauben, you are quick to attack the case. After reading reports from former FBI agents and DPS Commanders, I tend to lean towards the side of the Combine cops.

Obviouslly, for the civil case to be dismissed by the judge- and an expert witness report, that says Meissner did it.

Same type of crime Joey is accused of! Teen boy sex. Underage males cant consent. Maybe in Ellis County that is permissable, but not in the other 253 counties in the state!

But, just like Joey, there is not much intelligence here. However, I will sit back with both Dauben and Meissner fall on their own swords.

    ReplyDelete
  71. the difference between Hoskins, Meissner and Dauben, only Meissner and Dauben have been charged with criminal offenses. Both of which involved teenage males. Meissner's arrests go back to 2005, 2006, 2009... Dauben in the 2000s, 2009, 2011 and 2012. To my knowledge, Hoskins has NO criminal history. As the story you posted goes, Hoskins and Meissner had a falling out when Meissner was after yet another teen boy. So, like a typical idiot, you go after the one who actually tried to do something about Meissner- when everyone else has failed. 8 charges, 3 or 4 years by 3 agencies. Where theres smoke theres fire.

And, as for Joey Dauben, who is to say he wasnt involved in the teen boy thing with Meissner> after all there are emails, money exchanges, and the same age range of preference. Historically, sex offenders seek each other out!

    ReplyDelete
  72. "How do you know Joey had a one night romp??"

I read the charges from Navarro.

"I am assuming you are too ignorant to realize that this was an EXPERT witness"

no I got that, but you still havent proven the case. Thats called supporting evidence.

"After reading reports from former FBI agents and DPS Commanders, I tend to lean towards the side of the Combine cops."

No one is on the side of the Combine cops (maybe except for those cops themselves), including the City of Combine.

"Obviouslly, for the civil case to be dismissed by the judge- and an expert witness report, that says Meissner did it."

No, it doesnt, it just means the civil case was dismissed.

    ReplyDelete
  73. funny you should mention the word failed in relation to Hoskins and his persuit of Messisner. Yes, where others have failed, but no one has failed more than Hoskins in his vendetta agaisnt Meissner.

    ReplyDelete
  74. vendetta or pursuit of justice? Obviously there is two sides. And I am sure there were more on the side of the combine cops than the cops themselves. But, you are from Dauben land and probably drank too much of his kool aid.

    ReplyDelete
  75. obviously not since the judge and DA rejected it. Not to mention the City Combine had a piggy slaughter and cleaned out their pigsties. Oh yeah thats right, lets start the speculation that the judge was working for Meissner. Michael Chase Meissner is the definition of a nobody. This is a guy that pulled Joey over on foot in the barely a town called Bardwell Texas. He has no money, prestige, power, or anything to offer. No one in a position of authority gives a rats ass if her rots in jail for the rest of his life. But, nevertheless, we have this thing called the legal system, we have rules and procedures and standards that must be followed. A peace officer that has held 14 different positions in 10 years tends to have substantial difficulty in following this legal system of ours.

    ReplyDelete
  76. oh and yeah, you nailed it. I'm a Dauben kool aid drinker, I can't get enough of it.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Just like the federal judge dismissed the civil rights violation claims by Meissner, which means his rights were not violated, and that the case was a legitimately pursued case . Same DA dropped the charges that did not pursue John Wiley Price, Derick Evans or Jaime Cortes (or any of the rest of the corrupt Dallas politicians). .....

So, thats life in Dallas. Once corrupt, always corrupt.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Price, Evans and Cortes all have those key elements I mentioned. They have power, they have a postion of authority. Meissner never sniffed any of that, he is a nobody, they are somebodies. Somebodies can get into corruption from time to time with other high placed positions of authority. Nobodies don't get to play that game, they don't even have a ticket to the dance.

@ lol: I agree with Gingersnap. You seem obsessed with proving Meissner's guilt, defensive when it comes to questions about Hoskins and your anger at Joey is obviously deeply personal. It makes sense that you could be Hoskins.

@ G/snap: lol has good points with respect to the birds of feather thing and the similarity in the 2009 charges against Joey and the current charges in both counties.

It's hard to reconcile Joey's connection to the Combine mess, which is what captured my interest in the matter - it's a paradox. Joey is a self proclaimed crusader against sexual abuse of children, child porn and corrupt cops. Joey touts his God directed, extra ordinary ability to sniff out and expose corruption and porn rings. Joey was friends, or at least had a quid pro quo relationship, with Meissner. Meissner appears, based on public information, to be a corrupt cop, involved in sexual abuse of children and child porn - which Joey did not expose. So, there are 2 possible conclusions: either Joey is much more ignorant and oblivious to reality than who'd have thought or, he had knowledge of Meissner's activity and was involved at some level.

If Joey did have a romp in Corsicana as charged, I'd be doubtful that it was his first with a boy. If Joey is guilty, it appears there are 3 possibilities: the Corsicana romp is the only time he was caught, it's the only romp for which there is enough evidence to prosecute or maybe his other romps were age appropriate.

At any rate, I'm hoping enough information comes out in both trials to either connect all the dots or confirm that the dots can't be connected.

    ReplyDelete
  81. LOL, charges are dropped all the time. Charges being dropped don't always mean a person didn't commit a crime. However, that's the translation in a court of law. Remember, innocent until proven guilty. Sometimes everybody knows who is guilty, but it's impossible to prove for a number of reasons. A major reason is police misconduct. Simple things like an improper search, not reading Miranda rights, or even if a police force is going to face scrutiny for their investigation.

Say a police officer's wife is murdered, he's not going to be the one on the case. It is understood that he may be biased. He would be specifically kept away from the investigation. Otherwise there might be a seed of doubt. Maybe he was the killer and able to hide the evidence. Maybe he is so distraught over the loss of his spouse that he sees evidence where there is none. Maybe they have their ideas who the killer is, but they don't have a smoking gun. Oh no! Now we wonder if he planted evidence based on his hunch.

Get it? Hoskins killed the credibility of the investigation based on his involvement. He opened a damned website about Meissner. Yeah, I get it, he wants the story out there. But, it's obviously personal. Even with Hoskins off the investigation, his record and actions will taint the evidence. And, it is evidence, not proof. It's not proof until a judge or jury decides there is no reasonable doubt. Unfortunately, a police officer who can't hold a position for more than 5 months on a single force raises A LOT of questions. 14 DIFFERENT POSITIONS IN TEN YEARS, HOSKINS? REALLY? He isn't in construction. Sorry, medical reasons just don't justify this. And the website dedicated to Meissner? Well, that's just unprofessional and frankly, unbecoming of a police officer . (I don't care if he was already fired. If he's a legit police officer, he's not going to jeopardize the investigation on or off the force.) But Hoskins really isn't a police officer is he? Can you call it a career if you've never held the position in one place for even six months? No, it's called temp service. At best, security guard.

So, in conclusion, Meissner is bad. He's probably guilty of the charges. Yes, Dan Easterwood's affidavit and even Steve Allen's comments support that that there was probably a good bit of evidence that Meissner is bad. However, the way the investigation was handled, particularly who handled it, has put the entire force under a magnifying glass. It's prompted house cleaning. Neither Hoskins nor Meissner should be police officers. They both got involved in dirty games and used Joey. The both have questionable careers in law enforcement simply based on their timelines. They obviously have a score to settle with each other. Maybe the charges of child porn against Meissner were all made up by Hoskins. Who knows. If they weren't, Hoskins is to blame if Meissner hurts anyone else. These guys can go be prison guards or mall cops, but they don't need a squad car or badge.

Hey, do you know Curtis and his buddy Editor? They are a cool pair. Maybe you and LOL and Curtis and Editor could go on a double date. Wouldn't that be fun?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yeah, if we want to turn the focus back to Joey there are a couple of things that really kill his credibility on this fiasco. The main thing is he got caught working with Meissner a person his own stories showed to be a dirty cop. He had zero credibility going forward after this mess which is why he devotes quite a bit of time in his book in trying to whitewash out his involvement. The second thing it showed is just how stupid Joey really is. Most human being's natural instincts would be to steer clear of Hoskins and Meissner. Joey couldn't help himself, the wild accusations of child porn and corruption all committed by a person with a badge was just too much for him, curiosity killed the Joey in this case.

Maybe Joey was involved more with Meissner including the child porn operation. But just from looking at the 1000's of text messages its pretty clear that Meissner isn't very good at hiding things. I think if Joey were involved it would have been evident in those messages.

  87. nothingbettertodotodaySeptember 25, 2012 at 10:39 AM

@ G/Snap - re: the 1,000's of texts: Meissner, Cortes and Joey were targets of investigation by multiple agencies, together and alone. The text messages we've seen appear to be relevant to the complaints brought against each individual as a result of the investigations. Maybe there were texts between Joey and Meissner that would indicate Joey's knowledge and/or participation in what Meissner was doing. Joey wasn't the big fish in any of this, Meissner and Cortes appear to be primary targets. I think it's possible that the cops used the charges against Joey for posting the picture, plus other incriminating information, i.e. texts messages we don't know about, as leverage to encourage Joey to spill the beans on Meissner.

Maybe the DA's and/or cops kept their "gun powder dry", they used their ammo only as needed to move their cases on Meissner and Cortes forward. Like in a case where 4 people were murdered but the accused person is only tried for one murder. If the prosecution fails, they have 3 more times to get it right. Maybe the evidence was strong enough to scare Joey but not strong enough to pursue or important enough to divert effort away from the primary targets. Maybe they let Joey go on the kiddy stuff, knowing that would be able to him pick up with better evidence somewhere else down the line. I think it's possible that the Rangers are involved in the Navarro case because the investigation originated somewhere besides the kid that was involved.

As we all agree, there usually is some itsy, bitsy, tiny, miniscule bit of truth in what Joey says. This theroy would explain why Joey has known for a long time that the Navarro charges were in the works and he's adamant that the government has conspired to shut him down. Maybe they really are and have been after him, just not for the reasons Joey tries to sell to the public.

Or, maybe Joey is the biggest, most ignorant dolt God has ever made, I'm way over thinking it and need a nap.

    ReplyDelete
  88. @nothingbettertodotoday If there are certain charges against Meissner that they couldn't pursue because of a botched investigation / appearance of conflict of interest/ biased investigation etc, I bet they are heavily paying attention to Meissner's every move. Joey probably felt the heat from that even if he wasn't directly involved. If he was involved or had knowledge of any of it, you can bet he knew they knew. He's probably been waiting for them to pull the trigger on whatever they've had for a long time. If he was only involved with what he admits to, well, he probably knew that his actions didn't impress law enforcement at all. What he did was unethical at a minimum, and he pulled law enforcement into a bigger mess than they already were. That'll put you on somebody's radar quickly. Involved with Meissner's dirtiest activities or not, I'll bet he had things on his computer and in his possession that have been worrying him ever since. In his mind, the best way to prepare for that was to go on all out attack and claim a conspiracy against him. That way the seeds of doubt are planted in the soft minds that follow him lock step.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I think you are on the right trail, but on the wrong investigation. It was his Red Oak charges that led to his computers and phone's being seized. Then Navarro brings up charges against him shortly before Ellis does likewise. I think its very possible that they found some corroborating evidence such as instant messages with this boy that made the case go from speculative to a likely conviction.

If there were any actual text messages linking Joey to Meissner's child porn ring, Hoskins would have been posting that info all over the net. There is no way he would have slept on that kind of information, look at him, he is still leaking everything he can but never once has he shown anything that links Joey to child porn.

    ReplyDelete
  90. nothingbettertodotodaySeptember 25, 2012 at 11:40 AM

@ OReader: I agree with you re: Hoskins tainted the investigation of Meissner. Hoskins lost leverage before he even started because Meissner was picked over Hoskins for the chief's job. Whether Hoskins' had an axe to grind or not didn't matter - an accusation of sour grapes was enough to throw doubt on Hoskins' agenda. The smart thing is for Hoskins' to let go of Meissner and wait for Karma to handle him.

Figuring out which investigation came first and who linked who to who is like trying to figure out whether the chicken or the egg came first. But, if I recall correctly, Joey's computers were confiscated during the '09 investigations. I also recall discussion that child porn or something nasty was found on the computers. Joey claimed somebody hacked his computer and hid the photos there. I think you are exactly right, he's yelling conspiracy and admitted to the smaller things he's done in pre-defense for the worse things he's accused of. And, I think just like his little sister, Joey's alligator mouth has overloaded his twitty bird arse, he just doesn't know how bad yet.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think Joey was the only one that was seized in the 09 Combine thing. Yeah Brandy was the one that fueled the child porn fire when she said they found something on his computer. But I'm still pretty sure it was ellis county that did all that, not the combine thing.

OK, we're going to have to start a new thread if we continue this discussion - I'm too tired to scroll back to the right reply button.

@G/Snap: There is so much similarity between the cases and investigations, I may be confusing and/or combing events of 09 & 11. But, because they are so similar, I have a strong feeling there is more of a connection than we can know at this point. And, please correct me if I'm wrong: wasn't the investigation of Meissner handed over from Hoskins to a guy named Robinson, then escalated to higher authorities? Once Hoskins was out of the loop, he shouldn't have had any more access to evidence than we do. Hoskins can't post what he doesn't have.

@ G/snap: I see it as a jurisdictional thing. The boy in the camp thing happened in Navarro, so Thompson brought the charges. The falsely accused father thing happened in Ellis County, so Wilson brought those charges. But, I think OReader is right, the cops started watching and investigating Joey because of the information found in the 09 investigations.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Has it ever been said why the Texas Rangers took on this case? I mean, yes I believe the allegations are a big deal, but isn't Joey still small beans even with these charges? Could there be anything to the thought that this investigation was somehow related to a bigger investigation? It sounds plausible? Am I just going to put a question mark after everything I write?

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think the slut conversation was an escalation between Brandy and Shelby. Prior to that, the comments were just about how Daddy Dauben (and mommy) apparently didn't set high expectations for their offspring. Shelby was using her four letter vocabulary to eloquently express her disgust. She started espousing her belief that I was Brandy or a stripper who allegedly slept with Brandy's husband. Brandy came and gave her version of events along with her impressions of Shelby which included a proclivity for prostitution.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I really dont know the answer to this but why couldn't Ellis County DA give the Navarro DA information from their raid if it could be used as evidence in their case? If you get a warrant and find evidence of a different crime other than what you got the warrant for, can't you still use it?

    ReplyDelete
  100. I think the Texas Rangers were brought in because they already anticpated Joey's "Judicial corruption" argument and they wanted the one agency that is immune to that to be the one to handle the case.

    ReplyDelete
  101. nothingbettertodotodaySeptember 25, 2012 at 4:56 PM

@ G/snap & OReader: sorry, I didn't finish my last thoughts and post completely as I was running late for a dinner appointment - I meant to address the Rangers.

When Joey was arrested for the Navarro charges I just assumed the kid had come forward with the complaint and the process started with the kid's complaint. And just like Gingersnap, I thought Navarro probably called in the Rangers as a preemptive strike against Joey's accusations of judicial & police corruption. But, the more I've heard and read about the Combine mess, it seems plausible to me that Kaufman County (or Dallas or Tarrant,or the Feds, whoever took the lead) may have found out something about Joey and the kid, then turned the information over to the Rangers. The Rangers have jurisdiction over the whole state, county jurisdiction is limited to the county. Then the Rangers completed the investigation and filed charges in Navarro County because the camp is there. Basically, the reverse of what OReader said - I think the smaller issue may have been uncovered during investigation of the larger issue, with regard to Navarro County.

I think maybe Joey's attack on the falsely accused father was just a matter of giving himself to Wilson on a silver platter and has nothing or very little to do with the investigation or charges in Navarro. The Ellis charges against Joey are similar to the charges made in the Combine
mess. Combine dropped the matter, Wilson didn't appear to have jurisdiction in that issue. Then cocky Joey couldn't keep that alligator mouth closed, which gave Wilson the opportunity to bust him.

The theory about the 09 connection took on new life when I noticed lol struck a nerve in the Joey camp. If Joey rolled over to give up Meissner, it had to be for more than dropping the charges. Joey didn't think he'd done anything wrong by posting the picture. So, it made me wonder, what else did they have? How did they scare him? E-mails, texts and photos of little boys might do it. And if you throw in that it was about that time that Joey started his crusade against porn rings and abused kids........well, you get the idea........

What we know about Joey's connection to Meissner is a paradox, partly because what we know is what we've heard from Joey. I certainly don't lose any sleep over it, but I want the answer to the question as whether Joey knew about and/or participated in those activities with Meissner for my Gee-Whiz file. Sort of a bucket list thing.

  102. This is such a convoluted story for those of us that came late to the game (probably just me), and we're only discussing a small fraction of all Dauben related events and conspiracy. I'm way too scatterbrained to keep all the details in my head. I do better with math, physics, music, anything logical with patterns. Everything related to Joey is devoid of logic and is always counterintuitive.

  103. But then why wouldn't the Rangers tack on whatever evidence they had from the combine thing to his Navarro charges? Team Joey, through his public defender, would have access to that information and you know he would be going off on that if they tied anything in to his 09 arrest. So far, everything we have heard about this Navarro case simply revolves around the boy, the church camp that day and night, the other witnesses, and text messages between the boy and Joey after the incident. I havent heard of anything else coming in to that case other than those factors.

  104. Now my theory about why it took them so long to bring up the charges is that they basically had a "he said he said" case and it wasn't very strong till they got ahold of his computer and found text messages after the fact that supported a very close and unusual relationship between Joey and the boy. I think that was their smoking gun that allowed them to move forward.

  105. No, not all men hit women. I haven't witnessed a fight since I was in college, but during those years, I saw a few drunk girls go off on guys. At no time did I see a guy hit back. Most just took it until the girl wound herself down, and I can remember one who took her hands and pulled them down to her side.

And you are saying they have to hit back in defense? So you start these fights with men? Again, classy. If a man hits a woman, he is a loser. Plain and simple.

You are proud of the wrong things in life, and you speak like a trucker.

Your last statement can't be replied to because it makes no sense. Shelby says, "And if you all want a fuckin reality check about me I was for 8 years" What? You were what? And the hostile to stupidity part, well that's clearly not the case or you wouldn't be so accepting of all your "flaws" (as you put them). But hey, keep putting yourself on your pedal stool.

G/Snap: once Combine dropped the charges, that was it, end of story. I get confused, is it dismissed with prejudice or dismissed without prejudice that makes the charges go away forever? Nothing for the Rangers to tack on and I think Navarro would be the wrong jurisdiction. Jurisdiction would be either where the bad computer deed was done or where the victim of the bad computer deed lives, right?

As regards any disclosure of a connection between 09 and 11 investigations, it's the little things that have been said along the way by Joey and people close to him at the time that have caused me to wonder out loud, so to speak, at this paradox.

You're new theory works. Of course I may be taking us both into the OReader conspiracy theory machine. Or worse, into Joey's machine. But, with consideration of the computer offense that was dismissed and a he/she said situation with the boy, the Rangers and Ellis County could have been sitting on the case until Joey gave them probable cause to take the computers again.

OReader: Too true, not just for you. I think understanding some of this mess is a matter of getting into the swing and flow Joey logic. Like trying to understand someone speak English with a very, very heavy foreign accent.
